I've been (mostly) gluten and sugar free for a week! I feel great and happy I made it through 2 parties and a dinner out. There have been a few slight mishaps (see Sushi mishap) as I am finding hidden gluten in places but overall its fairly minor.
Grocery shopping this week was easier this week and I'm getting used to a few websites to check on gluten free items and spending more time prepping before I get into the store.
Week 1 Observations:
- It's amazing how sweet fruit tastes when you aren't eating refined sugars
- I don't miss the sugar crashes
- I'm sleeping SO much better
- My body is getting used to exercising without too many carbs ... its coming along slowly
- I'm so happy (most) wine is gluten free :)
The menu for this week:
Snacks:
Sabra Spinach & Artichoke Hummus & Carrots
String Cheese & Almonds
Unsweetened Applesauce (Trader Joe's)
Dessert: Banana Nut Ice Cream (recipe from Heather: Puree two bananas, 1/4 cup almond butter, 1/2 T cinnamon. Freeze)
Breakfast: Fruit Smoothies - Assorted Frozen Fruit, Greek Plain Yogurt
Lunch/Dinners:
Traditional Pot Roast (recipe found HERE)
Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken -- this has a bit of sugar in the sauce but its such a small amount I went ahead with it because its SO delicious and this chicken is great to eat on its own or in a salad.

good for you jen, i am curious why you decided to try this out. i have often thought of doing things like this for a month or season, but with children and a husband it would mean making 2 meals every day, yikes!!
good luck, i hope it goes as smoothly as this week seemed to be.
